RAP! RAP! RAP! “This meeting of the Okefenokee Creatures Association will come to order.  I am your chairperson Pogo the Possum. Please stand, crawl, hop or slither as you are able and recite the OCA pledge: ‘I pledge allegiance to the Okefenokee Swamp and the peat upon which it stands.  One swamp, indivisible, with rivers and justice for all, except drag-miners. … [Read more...] about December 22, 2024: Pogo And Friends Discuss Okefenokee Drag Mining Proposal

December 15, 2024: I Wish I Had Been There. In Bethlehem

December 25, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

These words are dedicated to the memory of my friend, the late Otis Brumby, Jr., publisher of the Marietta Daily Journal.  He encouraged me to run this column each Christmas season.  It is also dedicated to those who believe. I wish I had been there. In Bethlehem. I wish I had witnessed the birth of the baby Jesus in a lowly manger. Was it really as cold and snowy that … [Read more...] about December 15, 2024: I Wish I Had Been There. In Bethlehem

December 8, 2024: One Word Or Two: Brain Rot Is A Ridiculous Word Of The Year

December 17, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

May I have a word with you, please?  Actually, two words.  Brain Rot.  You just never know what kind of surprise awaits you when you check out this space, do you?  I have the feeling brain rot wasn’t on your radar.  Mine either, until I read that the swells who run the Oxford English Dictionary have chosen it as their word of the year for 2024. I think we can all agree that … [Read more...] about December 8, 2024: One Word Or Two: Brain Rot Is A Ridiculous Word Of The Year

December 1, 2024: Fannin County Sheriff’s Department’s Ham-Handed in Dealing With Local Mother

December 9, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

It seems as though my mother was a criminal and I am just now finding out about it.  All this time, I thought she was a conscientious parent who fixed my school lunch, washed and ironed my clothes, made sure I went to church and was active in the PTA.  Little did I know. When I was 10, we lived in College Park, south of Atlanta. Both my parents worked which made me a … [Read more...] about December 1, 2024: Fannin County Sheriff’s Department’s Ham-Handed in Dealing With Local Mother

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
