Letters To My Grandsons

January 9, 2022: Some Advice To A Great Grandson For The Coming Year

January 18, 2022 by webmaster

Dear Cameron Charles Yarbrough: It is a new year and once again an opportunity for me to share some thoughts with you as you face a future that is going to be full of challenges. But, then, all futures are challenging because they are filled with unknowns. What counts is how you deal with those challenges. First off, take nothing for granted including life itself. When you … [Read more...] about January 9, 2022: Some Advice To A Great Grandson For The Coming Year

January 17, 2021: Some Thoughts to My Great Grandson in A New Year

January 26, 2021 by webmaster

To Cameron Charles Yarbrough: I am a bit late in getting my annual letter to you this year.  Losing Grandma Jane just before Christmas was something none of us were expecting even though she had been pretty sick.   Some worthwhile lessons came out of that sad experience that are worth remembering.  First, life is fragile and unpredictable.  We have no … [Read more...] about January 17, 2021: Some Thoughts to My Great Grandson in A New Year

January 6, 2020: Some Advice For a Great-Grandson at the Start of a New Year

January 14, 2020 by webmaster

TO: CAMERON CHARLES YARBROUGH For a number of years, I have written a letter at the beginning of the year offering some thoughts on living a meaningful life now and in the future.  The letters were written to your dad, your uncle and their cousins – my grandsons.  Now, it looks like it is your turn at bat. In all that time, I never asked them if they read my … [Read more...] about January 6, 2020: Some Advice For a Great-Grandson at the Start of a New Year

Dear Cameron Charles Yarbrough: As has been my custom this time of year, I was about to impart some of an old man’s wisdom to my one and only great-grandson, but there has been a new development.  Henry Sanford Wansley decided to make an appearance.  (And on New Year’s Day!)  Two great-grandsons.  Too good to be true – but it is.  As of this … [Read more...] about January 7, 2019: To a New Year, A New Life and an Old Man’s Wisdom

January 8, 2018: Advice to a Great-Grandson: Work Hard, Dare to be Great

January 25, 2018 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Cameron Charles Yarbrough: It is that time of year again when I attempt to pass along a little of what I have experienced over my long life in hopes there will a nugget or two that you may find helpful as you make your own journey through life If memory serves me correctly, I began this annual exercise when your dad was about your age. You represent the next generation … [Read more...] about January 8, 2018: Advice to a Great-Grandson: Work Hard, Dare to be Great

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
