A long memory

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will.

For the past year, I’ve been railing against the efforts to allow Alabama-based Twin Pines permits to drag mine 582 acres of wetlands it owns adjacent to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge for titanium dioxide. Why titanium dioxide? It is an essential ingredient in toothpaste whitener. Toothpaste whitener? Our state leaders are considering what could be permanent damage to one of our treasured natural resources for toothpaste whitener?
