August 13, 2018: UGA Needs to do the Right Thing for Vince Dooley Now

August 16, 2018 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I have said it before and I say it again: If the field at Sanford Stadium is not named for Coach Vincent J. Dooley while he is still around to enjoy the honor, it will be a travesty and an insult to a man who well deserves the recognition. Alas, football fans can be among the most short-sighted of all forms of life.  They are a “what have you done for me lately?” … [Read more...] about August 13, 2018: UGA Needs to do the Right Thing for Vince Dooley Now

October 6, 2014: Some Random Thoughts On Some Random Subjects

October 14, 2014 by webmaster Leave a Comment

If I die anytime soon — and I have no plans to do so at the moment — please see that the first paragraph of my obituary reads, “He was past president of the University of Georgia National Alumni Association.” You can save for later paragraphs the part about my being often mistaken for Brad Pitt and my uncanny ability to put commas where they don’t belong. I had the honor of … [Read more...] about October 6, 2014: Some Random Thoughts On Some Random Subjects

December 10, 2012: Vince Dooley Talks About Football, Family And UGA History

December 21, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I called Hall of Fame football coach Vince Dooley this week to get his perspective on UGA’s heart-breaking loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. There are few people more qualified to comment than Vince Dooley. Let’s start with the fact that he won 201 football games, six SEC championships and a national title during an illustrious career that stretched from 1964 to … [Read more...] about December 10, 2012: Vince Dooley Talks About Football, Family And UGA History

Jun. 11, 2007: A Lot Of Things Have Changed In This World, But Not Vince Dooley

June 11, 2007 by webmaster Leave a Comment

A LOT OF THINGS HAVE CHANGED IN THIS WORLD, BUT NOT VINCE DOOLEY The first time I met Vince Dooley was at a restaurant at St. Simons Island. It was early 1965, and he was sitting alone in the near-empty eatery having dinner. I walked over and introduced myself and congratulated him on the winning season in his first year at UGA. Despite my having interrupted his meal, he was … [Read more...] about Jun. 11, 2007: A Lot Of Things Have Changed In This World, But Not Vince Dooley

December 7, 2000: CEOs Make the Tough Decisions

December 7, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Today, let us discuss the role of the chief executive officer, commonly referred to as the CEO. Our class assignment will be to look at the firing of Georgia football coach Jim Donnan and the role played by the University’s CEO, Mike Adams. The first thing to know about CEO’s is they get paid the big bucks and find their pictures at the top of the organization chart because … [Read more...] about December 7, 2000: CEOs Make the Tough Decisions

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
