October 28, 2019: The University Of Georgia is Winning Where It Counts

November 6, 2019 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I bow to no one in my love for and loyalty to the University of Georgia. I bleed red and black. I have served as president of the National Alumni Association, have been named the university’s outstanding graduate and today endow a professorship as well as fellowships at my beloved Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications. I can never repay my university for what it … [Read more...] about October 28, 2019: The University Of Georgia is Winning Where It Counts

August 13, 2018: UGA Needs to do the Right Thing for Vince Dooley Now

August 16, 2018 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I have said it before and I say it again: If the field at Sanford Stadium is not named for Coach Vincent J. Dooley while he is still around to enjoy the honor, it will be a travesty and an insult to a man who well deserves the recognition. Alas, football fans can be among the most short-sighted of all forms of life.  They are a “what have you done for me lately?” … [Read more...] about August 13, 2018: UGA Needs to do the Right Thing for Vince Dooley Now

April 30, 2018: This Academic Supporter is Stoked Over UGA’s Football Fortunes

May 11, 2018 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I feel like a hypocrite.  Well, sort of. I am an enthusiastic supporter of the academic mission at my alma mater, the University of Georgia, the oldest state-chartered university in the nation, located in Athens, the Classic City of the South. I evince that support with an annual gift to UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications.  The funds help … [Read more...] about April 30, 2018: This Academic Supporter is Stoked Over UGA’s Football Fortunes

June 7, 2016: UGA Athletic Director Does Right Thing the Right Way

June 9, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I haven’t met UGA Athletic Director Greg McGarity but I give him high marks for the way in which he has handled the blowback from the ludicrous Ludacris debacle. Evidently, he heard from a lot of you who were appalled at the idea of giving the rapper $65,000 to perform for 15 minutes during the G-Day Game last month but were stupefied at the additional demands contained in a … [Read more...] about June 7, 2016: UGA Athletic Director Does Right Thing the Right Way

December 7, 2015: Some Observations on the Coaching Changes at UGA

December 14, 2015 by webmaster Leave a Comment

As my sweet mama would say, “Things just get curiouser and curiouser.” That is the best way to describe the recent events at the University of Georgia — or more specifically — the athletic department at UGA.   As of this writing, Kirby Smart, who has morphed from a Bainbridge High Bearcat to an all-SEC defensive back at the University of Georgia to nine years as defensive … [Read more...] about December 7, 2015: Some Observations on the Coaching Changes at UGA

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
