January 23, 2012: Random Thoughts On Politics, Distinguished Journalists And The Birthday Girl

February 1, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

State Sen. Tommie Williams (R-Lyons), one of our two unelected lieutenant governors — Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) is the other — sent out a puff piece taking much credit for authoring a bill to require local school boards to consider a teacher’s “effectiveness,” not seniority, when getting rid of teachers. People both inside and outside state government tell me that Williams has … [Read more...] about January 23, 2012: Random Thoughts On Politics, Distinguished Journalists And The Birthday Girl

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON BAD SERVICE, GOOD WATER AND OTHER IMPORTANT MATTERS A friend of mine, once a top official in state government, recently tried to get AT&T service to his farm in Middle Georgia. After talking to robots and not getting his calls returned by a human being, he decided he had no choice but to call the Public Service Commission and complain. The PSC never … [Read more...] about June 22, 2009: Random Thoughts On Bad Service, Good Water And Other Important Matters

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON RANDOM SUBJECTS My feelings are hurt. An astute political observer named Larry wrote me, gloating over Barack Obama’s election and pointing out what a racist I am. He cited as proof the column in which I stated gasoline would rise to $6 a gallon before this country would elect a black man as president. The problem is I didn’t write that column. That’s what … [Read more...] about Nov. 17, 2008: Random Thoughts On Random Subjects

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON RANDOM SUBJECT No good deed goes unpunished. Recently I mentioned that Sen. Saxby Chambliss wanted to hear from you regarding your thoughts on the current energy crisis. A lot of you wrote him, and many of you sent me a copy. I found your letters a lot more thoughtful than the reply you received from the senator’s office. To call the response a “form letter” … [Read more...] about Jul. 14, 2008: Random Thoughts On Random Subjects

Nov. 5, 2001: Some random thoughts on some random subjects…

November 5, 2001 by webmaster Leave a Comment

While I reserve the right to occasionally add my two cents worth on the terrorists and those who tacitly support them, I believe it is clearly in the national interest that I move on to a discussion of other weighty issues that confront our society today -- like why repair people never come when they say they are going to and never apologize when they finally do appear. On a … [Read more...] about Nov. 5, 2001: Some random thoughts on some random subjects…

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
