May 11, 2015: To Georgia’s Public School Teachers: Thank You For Your Efforts

May 18, 2015 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Public School Teachers in Georgia: Congratulations on surviving another year in the classroom. As you take a moment to catch your breath and enjoy a brief respite before you start the process all over again, I hope you will reflect on the good you do; the impact you have on young people; your ability to make a difference. Yours isn’t a job. It is a calling. Many years … [Read more...] about May 11, 2015: To Georgia’s Public School Teachers: Thank You For Your Efforts

August 4, 2014: A Fresh Reminder Of Why Teaching Is A Noble Profession

August 11, 2014 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Georgia Public School Teachers: It is new school year but, alas, the same old impediments: An out-of-touch federal bureaucracy; ideological state legislators who choose not to send their kids to public schools but intend to tell you how and what to teach, and a society that values reality television more than quality education. Sometimes I wonder how you manage. There … [Read more...] about August 4, 2014: A Fresh Reminder Of Why Teaching Is A Noble Profession

March 3, 2014: Sen. Tippins Working To Improve Common Core Standards

March 10, 2014 by webmaster Leave a Comment

As predicted in this space a few weeks ago, there is compromise legislation pending in the General Assembly regarding the Common Core curriculum, the controversial program which seeks to establish consistent education standards across the country. For this, you can thank Sen. Lindsey Tippins (R-Marietta), the chairman of the Senate Education and Youth Committee.  Getting a … [Read more...] about March 3, 2014: Sen. August 5, 2013: School Teachers: They’re Grasshoppers in an Elephant Fight

August 11, 2013 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Public School Teachers: As you head back to the classroom for the new school year, I would like to tell you that things have changed for the better but I would be fibbing. Budgets will continue to shrink, classroom sizes will increase and the ignoramuses among us will still expect you to close the door on society’s ills and magically educate the next generation — whether … [Read more...] about August 5, 2013: School Teachers: They’re Grasshoppers in an Elephant Fight

February 27, 2012: Legislators Take “Cut-And-Run” Approach To Public School Issues

March 5, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Public School Teachers: The “school choice” crowd in the General Assembly is after you again. I am beginning to think this is all your fault. Evidently, you did something to them in their prepubescent period that has scarred them for life. Maybe you caught them smoking in the bathroom or smooching in the hall. Whatever the reason, they are getting even with you. Did you … [Read more...] about February 27, 2012: Legislators Take “Cut-And-Run” Approach To Public School Issues

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
