2000 Columns

May 25, 2000: Be Careful What You Pray For, Your Prayers Will Be Answered

May 31, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

In the category of “Be Careful What You Pray For, Your Prayers Will Be Answered,” I have just finished writing a book.  It is entitled, “And They Call Them Games,” published by Mercer Press, and is due out September 1.  It is my first book and, most likely, my last one.  I had always wanted to be an author but I had no idea that writing a book would be so hard and would take so … [Read more...] about May 25, 2000: Be Careful What You Pray For, Your Prayers Will Be Answered

May 18, 2000: When All Else Fails, Shoot the Messenger

May 22, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago, I said on these pages that I thought Georgia businesses were going to be forced into backing a change of the current state flag.  The column predictably got a lot of reaction. Those who agreed with my premise wrote short responses saying so.  Those who didn’t were vehement in their replies.  Many indicated I was part of the problem, suggesting that maybe … [Read more...] about May 18, 2000: When All Else Fails, Shoot the Messenger

May 11, 2000: I Have Seen the Future

May 15, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I have seen the future and I don’t like what I see. It is called mega-merger and resulted in the recent fight between a Mickey Mouse organization, called Walt Disney Company and the Looney Tunes bunch at AOL/Time Warner/Ted Turner, or whatever their name is this week. Time Warner had a dispute with Disney over programming issues so they decided to even the score by pulling … [Read more...] about May 11, 2000: I Have Seen the Future

May 4, 2000: The Irresistible Force is About to Meet the Immovable Object

May 7, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

The Georgia state flag issue is upon us and it isn’t going to go away.  The flag fight in South Carolina pretty much guarantees that. On one side of the debate will be a majority of state legislators, representing constituents tired of having somebody else’s will imposed on them. On the other side, a group of mostly black legislators who have been waiting for this opportunity … [Read more...] about May 4, 2000: The Irresistible Force is About to Meet the Immovable Object

April 27, 2000: Ma Bell and Bill Gates Share a Valuable Lesson

April 30, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Have you lost any sleep over the recent developments between the US Government and Microsoft Corporation?  Chances are you slept a little less soundly because of the stock market gyrations of the past couple of weeks than over the catfight between the Justice Department and Bill Gates. I suggest you pay attention to what happens because it will have a significant impact on … [Read more...] about April 27, 2000: Ma Bell and Bill Gates Share a Valuable Lesson

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
