October 19, 2000: Lesson from the USS Cole Bombing: Terrorists are Cowards

October 19, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I usually leave world issues to those self-important prigs in the national news media who grace the Sunday talk shows with their pontifications, but not today.I'm ready to solve the problem of Arab terrorism. Enough is enough. When a bunch of weirdos crash a boat into the side of an United States destroyer and kill 17 American sailors, kids who were simply doing their duty, we … [Read more...] about October 19, 2000: Lesson from the USS Cole Bombing: Terrorists are Cowards

October 12, 2000: I Hate to Say “I Told You So,” but — well — I Told You So.

For that small group of you who do not clip, paste and hermetically seal my columns each week, I predicted last April that the Atlanta Braves would fold like a cheap suit when October came.  I had said it would be the Cincinnati Reds or the New York Mets that would do the Bravos in but it was the St. Louis Cardinals who beat our local boys like a base drum.  Hey, I can’t be … [Read more...] about October 12, 2000: I Hate to Say “I Told You So,” but — well — I Told You So.

October 5, 2000: We Need a Fair, Accurate and Free Press in America

October 5, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

An Atlanta television cameraman is due in court in Haralson County in December to answer charges he provoked a group of black teenagers into burning a Confederate flag. I hope there is nothing to the charge because journalists are already fast losing the American public’s confidence. We don’t need another body blow. The First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University has done … [Read more...] about October 5, 2000: We Need a Fair, Accurate and Free Press in America

September 28, 2000: To the French: Qui t’a demande? (‘Who asked you?’)

September 28, 2000 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Pardon me if I am a little grincheux (that’s French for ‘cranky’) today, but I am more than offended that France’s Atlanta-based consul general, Jean-Paul Monchau has decided to stick his nez (that’s French for ‘nose’) where it doesn’t belong. As a representative of the French government, his job should be to foster good relationships among le Francais and Les Etats Unis but … [Read more...] about September 28, 2000: To the French: Qui t’a demande? My book, “And They Call Them Games – An Inside Look at the 1996 Olympic Games,” is finally in the bookstores just in time for the Sydney Games of 2000.  There was a time not too long ago when I thought the book would be out just in time for the Games of 2012 in a city to be named later. Simply stated, this has not been an easy experience. The book, published by Mercer … [Read more...] about September 14, 2000: Shazam!

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
