April 7, 2024: Some Sweet Talk About The Vidalia Onion

April 15, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Let’s face it.  We’re a blessed people.  Not only do we have the oldest state-chartered university in the nation with two recent National Football Championships and 27 Rhodes Scholars (but who’s counting?) and the greatest state song in the history of the world, “Georgia on my Mind,” as sung by Ray Charles Robinson, of Albany, Georgia,  we are also home to the Sweet Vidalia … [Read more...] about April 7, 2024: Some Sweet Talk About The Vidalia Onion

March 31, 2024:  Paying Tribute to Bob Shaw. A Man Who Made Us Better

April 10, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

My boss and mentor at Southern Bell, Jasper Dorsey, taught me a lot about the business world.  He also taught me a lot about the world beyond business.  One of his precepts was that we have an obligation to leave this a better world than we found it.  Otherwise, we have just taken up time and space and wasted a life. Those wise words came to mind last week at the going-home … [Read more...] about March 31, 2024:  Paying Tribute to Bob Shaw. A Man Who Made Us Better

March 24, 2024: Welcome To A New Generation of Georgia Bulldogs

April 2, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

There is a lot going on at my alma mater, the University of Georgia.  Not all the news has been good.  There was the tragedy last year when an athletic department staffer and a member of the football team were killed in a tragic car crash that law enforcement authorities say involved speeding, racing, reckless driving and alcohol impairment.  This, ironically, hours after a … [Read more...] about March 24, 2024: Welcome To A New Generation of Georgia Bulldogs

March 17, 2024: Do Our Politicians and Bureaucrats Really Care About Protecting Okefenokee?

March 26, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Between the time I write this and you read this, conditions can change.  Particularly in politics.  But as of this writing, there seems to be little doubt that an Alabama mining company will get permission from Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division (an oxymoron) to begin extractions of minerals from the Okefenokee Swamp. Correction: It is not “the” Okefenokee Swamp.  … [Read more...] about March 17, 2024: Do Our Politicians and Bureaucrats Really Care About Protecting Okefenokee?

March 10, 2024: Stating The State Of This Column Can’t Be Overstated

March 19, 2024 by webmaster Leave a Comment

My fellow Americans!  (Yea!  Clap!  Clap!) My fellow Georgians!  (Yeah!  Yeah!) And my loyal readers without whom I would have to go get a real job, (Laughter and applause!) I come before you today to submit to you my annual State of the Column address.  It is with great pride that I state to you that the state of this column is in such a state that it cannot be overstated!  … [Read more...] about March 10, 2024: Stating The State Of This Column Can’t Be Overstated

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
