Sep. 11, 2006: Mr. Bureaucrat, May I Please Have Some Catfish And Hushpuppies?

September 11, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

There is a report out saying that Southerners are fatter than most folks. The Trust for America’s Health claims that eight of the 10 states with the porkiest people are located in the South. Jeff Levi, the group’s executive director, is quoted as saying that he is stumped as to why Southerners get fatter than the rest of the country. He says it could involve “socio-economic” … [Read more...] about Sep. 11, 2006: Mr. Bureaucrat, May I Please Have Some Catfish And Hushpuppies?

Sep. 4, 2006: Muslim Panelists Respond To Your Questions: Part Two

September 4, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Trying to condense my three-hour meeting with a group of Muslims into this space is like trying to drink water from a fire hose: It’s not easy. A lot of your questions concerned the Muslim view of women. M. J. O’Rourke of Savannah asked: “What do Muslims believe about the rights of women?” Soumaya Khalifa, the female member of the group, said women enjoy special status. “A … [Read more...] about Sep. 4, 2006: Muslim Panelists Respond To Your Questions: Part Two

Aug. 28, 2006: Muslim Panelists Respond To Your Questions: Part One

August 28, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

As promised, I met recently with a group of Muslims and asked them your questions. To their credit, they were not shy, reticent or unwilling to answer. They said they were eager to set the record straight. You may not be satisfied with some of the answers — I wasn’t, either — but I am convinced that what this group said, they believe. More than 200 of you wrote and gave me in … [Read more...] about Aug. 28, 2006: Muslim Panelists Respond To Your Questions: Part One

Aug. 14, 2006: Your Chance To Participate In An Interview With Muslims

August 14, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Before we get started on today’s topic, let me first say a word about the voters of Georgia’s 4th Congressional District flushing our Ambassador to Outer Space and her blabber mouth down the political toilet: Good riddance! (Oops! That’s two words.) Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about your participation in an upcoming column. Like most of you, I have been … [Read more...] about Aug. 14, 2006: Your Chance To Participate In An Interview With Muslims

Aug. 7, 2006: A Stroll Down Memory Lane With Some Outstanding Georgians

August 7, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Please forgive me while I take a short stroll down Memory Lane. I’ll be back to my usual cranky self next week, I promise, but today I wax nostalgic. Nobody loves gigging politicians more than I do, but occasionally I need to be reminded that Georgia has been blessed with some outstanding leaders over the years. I was with a group of them last week. Some of the names may be … [Read more...] about Aug. 7, 2006: A Stroll Down Memory Lane With Some Outstanding Georgians

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
