Nov. 20, 2006: A Privileged Conversation: Carl Sanders Reflects On His Career And The Current State Of Politics

November 20, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Sometimes you get to do something for free that you would pay for the privilege of doing — like having a two-hour conversation with one of your political heroes, former Georgia Gov. Carl Sanders. He even bought lunch. It doesn’t get much better than that. I got to know Gov. Sanders while he was a member of the board of directors of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic … [Read more...] about Nov. 20, 2006: A Privileged Conversation: Carl Sanders Reflects On His Career And The Current State Of Politics

Nov. 13, 2006: Atlanta Politicians Show That Racism Is Alive And Well

November 13, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Congratulations to Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, U.S. Congressman John Lewis and former UN Ambassador Andy Young. Just when I thought political advertising couldn’t get any sleazier and the truth any looser, they proved me wrong. In an environment where standards are lower than low, they set a new record. Lee Morris, a former member of the Atlanta City Council, was running … [Read more...] about Nov. 13, 2006: Atlanta Politicians Show That Racism Is Alive And Well

Nov. 6, 2006: In America, The Little Guys Can Still Take On The Big Guys — And Win

November 6, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I will share my opinions on the recent elections with you when all the media pundits have stopped to catch their breath and I can be sure the political consultants have crawled back into the mud holes from whence they came. It’s just too noisy right now. In the meantime, let me relate to you a true story about how a group of local citizens took on the biggest bank in the … [Read more...] about Nov. 6, 2006: In America, The Little Guys Can Still Take On The Big Guys — And Win

Oct. 30, 2006: A Vote For Perdue (Mary, That Is)

October 30, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Ms. Perdue: We haven’t met, but I feel like I know you because I have seen you on television a lot recently. I’m not sure who convinced you to do commercials for your husband’s re-election campaign, but they deserve a gold star. I have been around the advertising business for 40 years, and have a little walking-around knowledge on the subject. Your commercials are good. … [Read more...] about Oct. 30, 2006: A Vote For Perdue (Mary, That Is)

Oct. 23, 2006: Some Astute Political Observations From Your Resident Genius

October 23, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

And now, some astute political observations from the genius who predicted four years ago that Gov. Roy Barnes would win a second term in a landslide. Please have your pencil and paper ready. I don’t do this often because it makes my brain hurt. Astute political observation #1: There is a possibility that Republicans will lose their majority in the U.S. House of Representatives … [Read more...] about Oct. 23, 2006: Some Astute Political Observations From Your Resident Genius

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
