Aug. 8, 2005: Even With Water, Georgia is Still the Greatest State

August 8, 2005 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Recently, I gave you 10 reasons that it is great to be a Georgian. It turns out that a couple of the reasons may have to be restated in the interest of total accuracy. Otherwise, I could lose my certification as a politically correct, non-controversial, modest and much-beloved columnist. An émigré from “middle America” who says he is “looking for a reason to feel better” … [Read more...] about Aug. 8, 2005: Even With Water, Georgia is Still the Greatest State

Aug. 1, 2005: No Need to Check the Calendar — Dog Days Are Here

August 1, 2005 by webmaster Leave a Comment

There is no need to check the calendar. These are definitely the Dog Days of summer. Webster’s Dictionary defines Dog Days as, “The period between early July and early September when the hot sultry weather of summer usually occurs in the northern hemisphere; a period of stagnation.” The C. Richard Yarbrough Book of Bromides, Beatitudes and Barroom Banter defines Dog Days as, … [Read more...] about Aug. 1, 2005: No Need to Check the Calendar — Dog Days Are Here

Jul. 25, 2005: An Analysis of Today’s Issues With the Help of My New Computer

July 25, 2005 by webmaster Leave a Comment

AN ANALYSIS OF TODAY’S ISSUES WITH THE HELP OF MY NEW COMPUTER What you are reading today is courtesy of a new wireless laptop computer equipped with everything but a flush toilet. It has more rams than a Scottish sheepherder, and so many bells and whistles that the computer salesman nearly slobbered himself to death describing them. The salesman claimed that this computer is … [Read more...] about Jul. 25, 2005: An Analysis of Today’s Issues With the Help of My New Computer

Jul. 18, 2005: Ten Reasons That It Is Great To Be a Georgian

July 18, 2005 by webmaster Leave a Comment

It never fails. Let me twit some foreign land like the Middle East or Vermont with my keen and well-developed sense of humor, and the natives react with righteous indignation. A reader in Illinois took exception to a recent column about Wrigley’s chewing gum factory moving some folks to a “Southern backwater town” (his term, not mine) like Gainesville. Actually, they are moving … [Read more...] about Jul. 18, 2005: Ten Reasons That It Is Great To Be a Georgian

Jul. 11, 2005: Getting the “Bear” Facts From The Source

July 11, 2005 by webmaster Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, I discussed slides of my vacation. In passing, I happened to mention the Bear from Big Canoe. The column got a lot of mail, but no one was the least bit interested in my vacation. Everybody wanted to know more about the bear. Go figure. To accommodate my readers, I recently sat down with the Bear from Big Canoe for an in-depth interview. Actually, I didn’t sit … [Read more...] about Jul. 11, 2005: Getting the “Bear” Facts From The Source

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
