To Brian and Thomas Yarbrough, Zachary and Nicholas Wansley, In case you are counting, this makes the eighth straight year I have written you with a little grandfatherly advice at the beginning of the New Year. You might be interested to know that this is far and away the most popular column of the year with readers. Many share it with their children and grandchildren, and in … [Read more...] about January 8, 2007: To My Grandsons: Some Advice For The Year Ahead

January 1, 2006: Annual Letter To My Grandsons

January 1, 2006 by webmaster Leave a Comment

To My Grandsons: Cool Isn’t Cool. God, Country And Family Are To Zachary and Nicholas Wansley, Brian and Thomas Yarbrough: It has become tradition to write you guys at the first of the year and lay a little unsolicited advice on you. I’ve never asked what, if anything, you do with these pearls of wisdom. Perhaps it is best that I not know. I do know that I have lived a long … [Read more...] about January 1, 2006: Annual Letter To My Grandsons

January 3, 2005: To My Grandsons: Life Is Too Short To Waste

January 3, 2005 by webmaster Leave a Comment

To Brian and Thomas Yarbrough, Zachary and Nicholas Wansley: Don’t look now, guys, but we are halfway through the first decade of the 21st century. That may not seem like a big deal to four active teenagers with the best years of their lives ahead of them, but from one who first saw the light of day before World War II, it is a little frightening. The older I get, the faster … [Read more...] about January 3, 2005: To My Grandsons: Life Is Too Short To Waste

May 2, 2004 by webmaster Leave a Comment

To Zachary and Nicholas Wansley; Brian and Thomas Yarbrough: I have been sharing some thoughts with you at the beginning of each year in the hope that some of my reflections might prove helpful as you grow to adulthood. I will continue to do so as long as I have something meaningful to say, and you show some interest in wanting to hear it. So why am I writing you in the … [Read more...] about May 2, 2004: To My Grandsons: Never Forget Our Heroes

January 1, 2003: A Letter To My Grandsons

December 29, 2002 by webmaster

To Brian and Thomas Yarbrough; Zachary and Nicholas Wansley: When I wrote you this time last year, we had just experienced the worst terrorist attacks ever in our country. We were still in a state of shock over the events of Sept. 11, and were trying to absorb just how much evil human beings can do to one another. What a difference a year makes. Today, some people among … [Read more...] about January 1, 2003: A Letter To My Grandsons

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
