Letters To My Grandsons

January 1, 2012: To Cameron: The World May Change But The Fundamentals Remain The Same

January 12, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

DEAR CAMERON: For the past decade, I have written an annual letter of advice to your father, your uncle and their cousins, trying to give them a little perspective on what life was going to be like for them as they grew into adulthood. Today, they are all adults and are experiencing first-hand the ups-and-downs of everyday living. I discern that they are finding that life is … [Read more...] about January 1, 2012: To Cameron: The World May Change But The Fundamentals Remain The Same

January 9, 2011: To My Grandsons: Faster Is Not Necessarily Better

January 9, 2011 by webmaster

To Nicholas Wansley and Brian and Thomas Yarbrough: If my abacus is working properly, this is the 12th year I have dispensed some grandfatherly advice to you in the hopes that something I tell you will be helpful as you step out into a world that looks a lot more complicated than the one I encountered at your age. When I first started this annual correspondence, you were … [Read more...] about January 9, 2011: To My Grandsons: Faster Is Not Necessarily Better

January 4, 2010: Annual Letter to My Grandsons

January 4, 2010 by webmaster Leave a Comment

To Brian and Thomas Yarbrough and Nicholas Wansley: My annual correspondence with you is now entering its second decade. We started when you were gap-toothed, giggly moppets. Now one of you is married and a father, one of you is about to graduate from college, and the third is winding up high school. Even after 11 years of dispensing grandfatherly advice, I still don't know if … [Read more...] about January 4, 2010: Annual Letter to My Grandsons

January 12, 2009: To My Grandsons: Live Your Life As Zack Lived His

January 12, 2009 by webmaster Leave a Comment

To Nicholas Wansley; Brian and Thomas Yarbrough: This is my ninth year to dispense some grandfatherly advice to you at the beginning of a new year. Things have certainly changed since I began this correspondence. Not only have you gone from pre-teens to adults during that time, including one newly minted father among you. We have also lost your brother and cousin, Zack, who … [Read more...] about January 12, 2009: To My Grandsons: Live Your Life As Zack Lived His

January 1, 2008: To My Grandsons: Work Hard and Have Passion

December 31, 2007 by webmaster Leave a Comment

To Zachary and Nicholas Wansley, Brian and Thomas Yarbrough Thinking about what I wanted to share with you this year, I was struck at how much we — you and I — have changed since we began this annual correspondence back at the beginning of the new millennium. Zack was a newly minted teenager, and the rest of you guys were barely double-digit. Now before this year is over … [Read more...] about January 1, 2008: To My Grandsons: Work Hard and Have Passion

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
