Letters To My Grandsons

January 2, 2017: To Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Work Hard And Dream Big

January 9, 2017 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Welcome to a new year.  Admittedly, I am biased, but what I have seen of you in your eight years on earth gives me great confidence that you have a bright future ahead of you.  I have been thinking about what I could say to you that might be of benefit as you continue your journey into a world that seems to grow meaner and shriller … [Read more...] about January 2, 2017: To Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Work Hard And Dream Big

January 4, 2016: Annual Letter to My Grandsons

January 11, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Cameron Charles Yarbrough:   Welcome to 2016. This begins your eighth year with us. I think you would agree that at this point in time, life has been better than good. May it remain so.   Today, you are sowing the seeds for your future. Of course, nobody can predict what that future will be. Hopefully, there will many good days ahead, but you can be sure … [Read more...] about January 4, 2016: Annual Letter to My Grandsons

January 6, 2015: To Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Some Advice From An Old Man

January 12, 2015 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Cameron Charles Yarbrough: For the past 15 years, I have taken the opportunity at the beginning of the New Year to share some advice — first with your dad and his cousins and now with you, my great-grandson. I hope you don’t mind and will bear with me. You would probably rather be playing with your Legos and I understand that but maybe something in this letter might make … [Read more...] about January 6, 2015: To Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Some Advice From An Old Man

January 6, 2014: To Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Have Fun And Give Life Your Best Shot

January 12, 2014 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Cameron: You have been in this world for a tad over five years. I think you would agree it has been a pretty good ride to this point. A lot of people love you and care deeply about you.  When you are older, you will understand just how fortunate you are. You have brought a lot to the party yourself. When you showed up at my door at Christmas with a plate of cookies you … [Read more...] about January 6, 2014: To Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Have Fun And Give Life Your Best Shot

January 7, 2013: To Cameron: Thank You For Reminding Us What Really Matters

January 16, 2013 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Cameron Charles Yarbrough: Over the years it has been a tradition at the first of the year to impart some words of wisdom in this space to your father, uncle and cousins, who double as my grandsons.  Perhaps some of my observations were useful to them.  Maybe some fell on deaf ears.  I have never asked.  Anyway, they are adults now; old enough and wise enough (I hope) to … [Read more...] about January 7, 2013: To Cameron: Thank You For Reminding Us What Really Matters

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
