June 25, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Hear this, a Baptist’s prayer: “Now I lay me down to sleep.  I pray the Lord this promise to keep.  If I should die before I wake, don’t let girls in  the pulpit, for goodness sake.” Southern Baptist – the largest Protestant denomination in the United States – have just finished their annual convention in New Orleans and have voted that while women can be CEOs of major … [Read more...] about June 18, 2023: One Man’s Opinion On Banning Women From Baptist Pulpits

June 11, 2023: A Look At Fathers Past And Present On This Father’s Day

June 19, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I have been called a lot of things in my long life, not all of them complimentary, but one of the most satisfying is being called Dad.  It is a sobriquet I earned with the considerable involvement of the beloved Woman Who Shared My Name.  It was teamwork at its finest, although I will admit she had the tougher part of the job. Birthing babies is not for the faint of … [Read more...] about June 11, 2023: A Look At Fathers Past And Present On This Father’s Day

June 4, 2023: In Defense Of A Southern Accent, Y’all

June 13, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Well, swat my hind with a melon rind!  I just found out why I’m so slow-witted and eat my peas with a butter knife.  It’s my Southern accent, y’all.  I have just read a survey that those of us who live down here below the Mason-You-Know-Who line are thought by some who live where it snows ten  months a year and all their buildings are rusted, to be less intelligent because of … [Read more...] about June 4, 2023: In Defense Of A Southern Accent, Y’all

May 28, 2023: Make Way For A New Oxymoron – United Methodist

June 5, 2023 by domainadmin Leave a Comment

We are all familiar with the term “oxymoron,” meaning a figure of speech that combines words with opposing meanings, such as bittersweet or jumbo shrimp,  freezer burn or pretty ugly.  Here’s a new one to add to the list: United Methodist.  The Methodist Church, the nation’s second-largest Protestant denomination, is about as united these days as a flock of chickens in a … [Read more...] about May 28, 2023: Make Way For A New Oxymoron – United Methodist

May 21, 2023: What Is Fueling Georgia Power’s Rate Increases?

May 31, 2023 by domainadmin Leave a Comment

If you happen to be a Georgia Power Company customer, I have some good news and some bad news.  Let’s get the bad news out of the way first.  Your bill is going up $16 per month starting June 1.  That’s on top of what you are already paying for your service.  And the good news?  It is not really a rate increase.  The company is just passing along its fuel costs to you for the … [Read more...] about May 21, 2023: What Is Fueling Georgia Power’s Rate Increases?

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
