October 15, 2023: Passed Over For Nobel Prize For Literature Again This Year

October 24, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Rats!  Can you believe it?  Once again I have been passed over for the Nobel Prize in Literature.  This is beginning to get on my nerves.  Some guy named Jon Olav Fosse won it this year.  As you may know, the Nobel Committee is located in Sweden and the award went to a Norwegian.  Am I am smelling a little Scandinavian home cooking here? Admittedly a few Americans have won … [Read more...] about October 15, 2023: Passed Over For Nobel Prize For Literature Again This Year

October 8, 2023: Remembering A Visit To Iraq With Georgia’s 48th Brigade Combat Team

October 10, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Eighteen years ago this week,  I ventured off to Iraq to report on the brave men and women of Georgia’s 48th Brigade Combat Team, located in an accurately-named area of the country called the Triangle of Death.  It is thought that the Garden of Eden was located somewhere in that general area.  If so, Adam and Eve were lucky to get out when they did.  The serpent, too.  It was … [Read more...] about October 8, 2023: Remembering A Visit To Iraq With Georgia’s 48th Brigade Combat Team

September 24, 2023: Talking Southern With The Ryo Morning Coffee Club

October 3, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I just had to call Skeeter Skates with the news.  As many of you know, Skeeter is the owner and operator of Skeeter Skates Tree Stump Removal and Plow Repair in Ryo, Georgia.  He is also the current presiding chair of the Ryo Morning Coffee Club, a collection of Great Americans which includes Walleye, who runs the bait shop over in Red Bud, Booger Bledsoe, who operates a local … [Read more...] about September 24, 2023: Talking Southern With The Ryo Morning Coffee Club

September 17, 2023: Reflections On a Grandson Who Left Us Much Too Soon

September 25, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

My oldest grandson, Zachary Earl Wansley, died 15 years ago this past week while on a training run for an upcoming marathon.  He was 21 years old.  I am not sure what he would be doing today were he here, but I am positive whatever it might be, he would be a success.  He always was. As to what happened, I do not know.  Zack was at the peak of physical condition.  The results … [Read more...] about September 17, 2023: Reflections On a Grandson Who Left Us Much Too Soon

September 3, 2023: A Look At Brian Kemp’s Increasing Political Influence

September 11, 2023 by webmaster Leave a Comment

It was just a few short years ago that Brian Kemp was one of our most underrated and understated governors.  But not anymore.  Today, he is a power to be reckoned with, both in the state and nationally. Who saw it coming?  I didn’t.  Former Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle looked like a shoo-in for governor in 2018 until he was caught saying something he shouldn’t have said to a former … [Read more...] about September 3, 2023: A Look At Brian Kemp’s Increasing Political Influence

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
